About the artwork
Lewis Buttery was working only in the form of line drawings. He wanted to change it up and get into painting tonally. Since Lewis was getting into using ink anyway, applied with a graffiti squeezer pen, he decided to use that. He only wanted to use black ink, so he used that for shadow and left the white of the paper as highlight without any mid tone. Lewis stuck with that way of working.

Lewis Buttery is a nationally exhibited artist from Leicester, UK. Lewis was born in 1995 and comes from a working class background. He got help in 2012, after dropping out of college and struggling with his mental health. Lewis decided that, if he was going to live, he might as well live life that he wants. He spent a few years self-taught and, working in the arts in his hometown, he was barely earning enough to get by. In 2018 he started a Fine Art degree, so that he could use the maintenance loan to cover his living costs while he worked on his art practice. In 2019 he held his first two London solo shows and did his first artist residency. He wants to get to the point where he's doing shows and artist residencies around the world.
"Fantastic!!!!! Some real Buttery artwork!!!! It's very personal but professionally done. It's in the hallway facing you when you open the door. I think visitors will then get a feel for my home."
